The first mention of the church is in the Papal taxation records for 1291. But the situation of the church in an oval churchyard points to the likelihood that Christian worship has been offered here for well over 1000 years. The bowl of the font dates from the 13th Century and the beautiful barrel roof over the chancel is perhaps as old as the 14th Century. This is clearly a modern dial even though it bear the date 1767. It is a memorial dial to Ivy Hilda Jones who died in 1985. "Friend of All, In thanksgiving from the people of Selattyn" is engraved round the top of the capital surrounding the dial. The column and the two-stepped plinth may have supported an earlier dial J.P. Lester |
