This is the Albrighton near Shrewsbury, not the one near Shifnal. A pair of declining dials on the corner of the building: one wonders why they were not both made the same size. The smaller one declines 31degrees W and shows hours from IX to VIII: the larger one declines 33 degrees E and shows hours from IV to III divided into halves and quarters by short red lines and lozenges in the chapter ring. The dials are painted on to a rendering applied in the brickwork and are in poor condition. Albrighton Hall was built in the 17th. century and it is at least possible that the dials are of the same age. John Lester |
